The IUP women’s cross
country team finished in second place on the strength of four runners who
earned all-conference honors at the PSAC meet held Saturday at Kutztown.
IUP had 99 points, trailing
only Bloomsburg which had 65. The Crimson Hawks, seeded fourth entering the
meet, edged favorite Edinboro, which finished third with 102 points.
Slippery Rock (112) and Kutztown (122) rounded out the top five.
Erica
Hoffman (pictured) led the IUP individuals by finishing fourth with a time
of 24:01.10 in the 6K race. Also taking spots on the all-conference team on
the basis of a top 20 finish were Maureen Newell (11th,
24:29.70), Stacie Stockard (18th, 24:51.80) and Laura Blaesser
(20th, 25:05.70).
Also competing for the
Crimson Hawk women were Bridget Connolly (46th, 26:00.90),
Tatyana Maltseva (54th, 26:11.20), Lauren Bauer (85th,
27:26.60), Kelly Best (87th, 27:30.30) and Emily Bogden (93rd,
28:06.80).
Erin Richard of Clarion won
the women’s individual title in 23:02.10, besting Edinboro’s Rachel Lanzel
by 16 seconds.
The IUP men finished 12th
and the top Crimson Hawk men’s runner was Nate Shelly, who finished 30th
in the 8K distance with a time of 27:46.80. Also figuring in the scoring
for IUP were Chad Phares (56th, 28:42.90), Ben Shinsky (62nd,
28:50.90), Luke Snyder (80th, 29:11.90) and Ben Havko (86th,
29:42.90).
Both IUP teams will compete
next at the NCAA Division II East Region meet on Saturday at Lock Haven.
