Mindy Sawtelle Earns All-America Honors at NCAA Cross Country Championships

Complete women's results

IUP sophomore Mindy Sawtelle turned in an eighth place finish at the NCAA Division II cross country championships on Saturday to earn a spot on the All-America team for the second time in as many years.

Sawtelle, competing as an individual, had a time of 21:54.1 in the 6K race.  For the second straight year she was the top finisher from the East Region, having placed second last fall for the top showing ever by a woman from this region.  The top 30 runners earned All-America status.

Sawtelle was two spots ahead of Edinboro’s Julie Nemergut, who had defeated her at both the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and NCAA East Region meets.  Nemergut did lead the Fighting Scots to a second place finish with 101 points, trailing only Adams State for the team title.

On the men’s side, Edinboro finished in seventh place while Lock Haven was ninth.  Ryan Coon of Edinboro was the top runner from the East Region, finishing in 17th place.
