IUP Cross Country Teams Defeat Davis & Elkins at IUP Invitational

The IUP men’s and women’ cross country teams both posted victories over Davis & Elkins on Saturday at Mack Park.

The women took each of the top eight spots to claim a 15-50 win while the men had five of the first seven finishers to emerge with an 18-39 win. 

Nicole Blaesser led the women’s parade to the finish line with a time of 21:22.  She outdistanced teammate Erica Hoffman, who crossed in 23:21.  Jorge Medina and Eric Kruttschnitt led the men with times of 25:37 and 25:48, respectively.

The next six finishers for the IUP women were Maureen Newell and Laura Blaesser (both at 24:35), Stacie Stockard (24:44), Audrey Serfes (25:21), Marissa Umbel (25:39) and Karen Geibel (26:22).

Medina and Kruttschnitt were followed in the men’s race by Nate Shelly in third place at 26:12.  Other IUP men in the top 10 were Bobby Boston (fifth, 27:11), Adam Shinsky (seventh, 27:35) and Chad Phares (tenth, 28:22).

Both IUP teams are back in action next Saturday at the Spiked Shoe Invitational hosted by Penn State.
