Nicole Blaesser Named PSAC Runner of the Week
for Second Time This Season
IUP senior Nicole
Blaesser has been named the PSAC Runner of the Week for the second time
this season after her performance at the Spiked Shoe Invitational at
Penn State on Saturday.
Blaesser
(Oxford/Oxford) finished in sixth place in a field of 316 runners with a
time of 21:28 on the 6K course. Her time was best among all Division II
runners and the fastest ever by an IUP woman at the Spiked Shoe meet.
She helped lead IUP to
a sixth place finish in the team standings and first among non-Division
I teams. With its showing at the Spiked Shoe, the IUP women moved up to
11th in the latest United States Track and Field and Cross
Country Coaches Association national poll.
Blaesser has earned
spots on the All-East Region team each of her first three seasons at IUP,
including a fourth place finish in 2005. She has twice competed at the
NCAA Division II national meet, with a best finish of 49th a
year ago.
Both IUP cross country
teams are off this week before returning to State College for the Penn
State Invitational on Oct. 7.
