IUP junior lefthander Chris
Twigg has been named the PSAC West Pitcher of the Week after blanking
Slippery Rock, 1-0, in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Owen
Dougherty Field.
Twigg,
a graduate of Penns Manor High School, tossed a one-hitter against The Rock,
allowing only an infield single in the second inning while striking out four
batters. He worked out of trouble in the first and fifth innings and
retired the final seven batters of the game to complete his second shutout
of the season.
Twigg also shut out
Shepherd in the season opener and whitewashed Shippensburg in a PSAC West
contest last year.
On the season, Twigg has a
record of 4-2, tied for the team lead in wins, and has an ERA of 4.19. In
seven starts, he has two other complete games in addition to his two
shutouts and has struck out 32 batters in 38 2/3 innings of work.
Twigg is the second IUP
pitcher to earn the weekly award from the PSAC this season. Dan Snyder was
chosen in the second week of the year. Shortstop Paul Bingham was the
initial PSAC West Player of the Year.
