IUP senior third baseman
Tyler Wise has been named to the inaugural Daktronic NCAA Division II
All-North Atlantic Region first team for the 2007 season and his name will
appear on the ballot for All-America consideration.
Wise, a graduate of Bedford
High School, played only one season at IUP but left his mark on the school
record book. He played in 46 games with 45 starts and batted .400
(58-for-145) with 14 doubles, two triples, seven home runs, 34 runs scored
and 30 RBIs.
Through
the end of the PSAC tournament, Wise ranked second in the conference in home
runs, slugging percentage (.669) and on-base percentage (.503) while placing
third in the league in total bases (97), fourth in doubles and walks (25)
and seventh in batting average.
Wise finished the season
riding an 11-game hitting streak and hit safely in 21 of the final 23 games
of the year. He had 16 multiple hit games and went consecutive games
without a base hit only once the entire season.
In the IUP single season
record book, Wise ranks in tie for first in doubles, tied for second in
total bases, tied for third in home runs, fourth in hits and fifth in
slugging percentage. Including the 2005 season at Shippensburg, Wise had 20
doubles, 14 home runs and 64 RBI in two seasons playing in the PSAC.
IUP finished the 2007
season with a record of 20-28 and 10-10 in the PSAC West. The Crimson Hawks
doubled their win total from the previous year and were in the hunt for a
berth in the PSAC playoffs until the final weekend of the season.
