Jahzinga Tracey Posts 18 Points and 18 Rebounds as IUP Pulls Away from Charleston

Boxscore and play-by-play

Jahzinga Tracey scored 18 points and grabbed 18 rebounds and IUP outscored Charleston by 15 points in the second half as the Crimson Hawks downed the Golden Eagles 67-53 in the Holiday Inn Tip-Off Classic Saturday at California, Pa.

IUP improved to 4-0 with a suffocating defense that limited Charleston to 32.8 percent shooting while forcing 25 turnovers.  The game was the season opener for the Golden Eagles.

Tracey recorded her third double double in four games while adding five assists and three steals, and the rebound total was two shy of her career high set against East Stroudsburg last season.

Kylie Miller scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Lacey Claar made all four of her field goal attempts and all three free throws to finish with 12.

Miller and Kierstin Filla joined Tracey with three steals as IUP made 14 thefts in the game.  Filla also had four assists and Staci Heberling pulled down 10 rebounds.

Jihan Williams led Charleston with 16 points and five steals.  Tarenna Dixon had 15 points and 15 boards.

IUP trailed by as many as nine points on three occasions in the first half but finished the opening 20 minutes on a 14-6 run to pull within 31-30.  The Crimson Hawks actually went ahead 30-29 on a 3-pointer by Miller with 33 seconds left before intermission.

IUP continued its hot streak after halftime, scoring the first 11 points of the period to cap off a 25-6 surge.  Miller made another 3 and added another basket with 15:52 remaining to give the Crimson Hawks a 41-31 lead.  Claar added a layup and two free throws in a 23-second span as part of the run.

A 3-pointer by Ali Tobias made it 41-34 but consecutive layups by Filla and Hillary Shope rebuilt the IUP lead to 45-34.  Charleston was within eight at the 6:57 mark before a 3-pointer by Claar and back-to-back baskets by Tracey helped the Crimson Hawks make it 61-48 with 3:48 to go.

IUP concludes play at the tournament on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against Salem International.  The Crimson Hawks then take two weeks off before hosting Bloomsburg and Mansfield on December 1 and 2 in the PSAC crossover games of the season.
