Kermit InformationWhat is Kermit?Kermit is IUP's recommended and supported terminal emulation software. It has been custom configured to interoperate effectively with university computing systems. Kermit-95 (K95) is for use with Windows 95. It should also function with Windows 98/NT, but IUP does not support it under those operating systems. MS-Kermit (MSK) is for use with DOS or Windows 3.1. Both are available for download using the links below. How is it licensed? The IUP Kermit packages are available to all current IUP faculty, staff, and students for campus or home usage. Individuals are entitled to non-transferable use of Kermit as long as they are students at or employed by IUP. Kermit-95 is not freeware; it is not shareware. It must be purchased and licensed. IUP has purchased a site license permitting its use by current students, faculty and staff. When you are no longer considered a student, faculty or staff member, you must either remove Kermit from your computer or purchase your own license. Why is the 4/99 package a mandatory upgrade for dial-up services? The equipment used to provide dial-up data services at 357-7700 must be replaced for Year2000 compliance. The 4/99 packacge includes updated dial-up scripts that work with the new equipment. Click here for more details. How do I get a copy? For on campus use, faculty or staff should contact their technology support representative. For student or personal use, copies may be obtained in some public labs. See the Academic Technology Services pages for information about software available in the labs. The following downloads (self-extracting executables) of Kermit95 & MS-Kermit are also available: Note 1: Access to the following download is restricted; access is only granted to Authenticated IUP network users. If you are an IUP user and get prompted for a Username and Password, enter your username as IUPMSD\Username.
How do I install the downloads above?Note: Do not download this package to your work PC if you are on the administrative network. Regular updates to the Kermit package are already made to the administrative network as part of the standard maintenance releases.
