Services
The Center for Teaching
Excellence is dedicated to helping faculty achieve
excellence in their teaching by providing them with
opportunities for professional and personal growth.
Among other things,
excellent teaching
- Places students at the
center of all teaching and learning.
- Involves students
actively in the learning process.
- Presents knowledge in
terms which are meaningful and understandable to
students.
- Challenges students to
develop strategies for lifelong learning.
- Respects and
acknowledges student differences.
Effective teaching is a
reflective process that incorporates critical self
appraisal and hard work.
The Center for Teaching
Excellence provides services for the enhancement of
teaching, such as:
- Workshops and
discussions
- New faculty orientation
- Faculty consultations
- Mentorship opportunities
- Books and videotapes on
teaching and learning
- Teaching portfolio
development assistance
- Teaching excellence
awards
Services are dynamic,
depending on the needs and interests of the faculty.
Faculty may request the use of the Center's services by
contacting the Center or the Director at 357-7800, or by
visiting the office located at 103 Stabley Library. The
office is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon
and from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m.

IUP Reflective Practice Project
A Campus-wide Effort to Promote More Effective Teaching.
IUP faculty working together to improve their teaching. On
this page are summaries of activities of the RP group,
guidelines to establish departmental teaching circles,
presentations, and other information of interest to
faculty.

New Faculty Orientation is a two-day program
designed to introduce faculty new to IUP to the
university and to explore topics such as
diversity, teaching, and learning.
