IUP's Drug/Alcohol Workshops:
Expectations of Workshop Participants

What is the purpose of the workshop(s)?

Health AWAREness provides two educational workshops for students who are judicially sanctioned due to violating the University’s Alcohol and/ or Drug Policy. The goals of the workshops include:

  • Increase participant’s knowledge about social, emotional, physical and legal consequences of alcohol and other drug use.
  • Encourage participants to evaluate the role of alcohol and drugs in their life.
  • Provide information and instruction on warning signs of problematic drug and alcohol use and help participants identify their level of risk.
  • Provide information and instruction on developing and implementing risk reduction strategies.
  • Help participants assess the choices they make about alcohol and other drug use and provide information about campus and community resources.

How do I register?

In most cases, the individual involved in hearing your judicial case will register you.  In the event that you need to register on your own, you can contact Health AWAREness at
724-357-4799.

Am I required to pay to attend the workshop?

There is no charge for the workshop.

What if I have a scheduling conflict?

Due to limited spaces, it is imperative that you attend the workshop in which you are scheduled.  Attendance is mandatory and reasons for rescheduling will only be approved for legitimate and verifiable reasons.   If you are unable to attend the workshop you have been assigned, you need to contact the individual who referred you to the workshop.  This individual will determine if you are able to reschedule and the steps that need to be taken to do so.

What are the requirements of the Workshop?

  • All students are expected to be alcohol and drug free.  Health AWAREness reserves the right to dismiss any student who appears to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

  • All students are expected to be on time. If you have a legitimate reason for being tardy due to academic or work commitments, you must notify Health AWAREness 48 hours prior to the workshop. If the time results in you missing a substantial amount of the workshop, you will be asked to reschedule to another workshop.  Health AWAREness reserves the right to turn away students who are more than 15 minutes late.

  • Students are expected to attend all scheduled sessions of the workshop and complete an exit interview. Exit interviews are scheduled at the completion of the workshop.  Exit interviews take 15-30 minutes and are scheduled at a time that is suitable to you and the workshop facilitator.
