Dr. Renate A. Schulz
2008 Keynote Speaker

We hope you'll join us for another professionally stimulating IUP Spring Methodology Conference on Foreign Language Teaching! The 2008 conference will be held on Friday, April 18, 2008, at the Holiday Inn in Indiana, PA. Once again, you can look forward to this yearly event that brings you exciting new ideas that you can take back to your classroom, current issues in language education for you to discuss, opportunities for you to network with other language professionals, and the latest textbooks and materials for you to peruse. As in the past, you will receive six hours Pennsylvania Act 48 professional education credits.

We're thrilled that our keynote speaker for 2008 is Dr. Renate Schulz, a national leader in second language acquisition, foreign language education, and German studies (see more details about Dr. Schulz in her bio). The topic of her keynote address is "Revisiting the Role of Culture in the Context of Foreign Language Teaching," and she will also present the session "Testing What You Teach: Cultural Goals and Classroom Assessment." In addition, we are offering conference sessions on a variety of timely topics including developing proficiency through brain-compatible teaching, interactive language activities, wikis and podcasts in the language classroom, incorporating popular music, using poetry, helping students with language learning disabilities to develop writing abilities, stretching students toward survival-level speech, teaching to the multiple intelligences, the "how to" of becoming a National Board Certified world language teacher, using "Survivor" to keep students in the target language, and much, much more! You'll have plenty of time to examine our textbook exhibits and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch.

We look forward to renewing old acquaintances and to meeting teachers attending the conference for the first time! See you on April 18!
