The Spanish and Classical Languages Department is proud to announce various programs of study abroad as well as special projects on campus.  You may read about each one in detail and in some cases seek further information by clicking on related pages.  

 

 

42st ANNUAL PENNSYLVANIA VALLADOLID PROGRAM

 

Every academic year the department offers students who have completed SP 221, 230 and 260 (or equivalent courses) the opportunity to spend the spring semester studying in Valladolid, Spain. This program is administered by a permanent resident director. Students earn up to 18 credits in college level courses taught in Spanish by Spanish faculty. Dates for 2003 are January 3-May 18. The total cost of the program is $5,550.  The group left from Philadelphia on January 4 for Madrid and will return to Philadelphia on May 19, 2003.

2008 MEXICO SUMMER STUDY ABROAD IN CUERNAVACA

 

Every summer students who have completed at least SP 201 or its equivalent with a grade of C or better are eligible to apply for the study in Mexico program where they spend six weeks studying the Spanish language in classes taught in Spanish. Students live with Mexican families, study at the Centro Bilingüe and travel to places of cultural and historic interest in central Mexico. Credit is given for either six or seven semester hours. The dates for 2008 are May 11-June 23. The total cost of the program is approximately $3,925.

ANNUAL COSTA RICA SUMMER STUDY PROGRAM IN HEREDIA, COSTA RICA

FLISET - FOREIGN LANGUAGE AND INTERNATIONAL STUDIES FOR ELEMENTARY TEACHING

 

FLISET is an academic specialty designed for students majoring in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education at IUP. Students are prepared to teach in immersion programs and content-based programs in which the content areas such as mathematics, science or social studies may be taught in Spanish. The program includes a summer internship/study abroad to boost the proficiency level and closely supervised field experiences.
