The following opportunities have been submitted to the Office of Service Learning in order to recruit student volunteers.  A brief description of the event/project as well as contact information is included in each opportunity.  Contact the agency/organization directly or as otherwise indicated by the listing.  Please check back often for updates and additions.

Planned Parenthood

VOX works to promote sexual health on campus through education and advocacy efforts. The groups activities range from community outreach at campus events to film screenings and voter registration drives to condom give aways.

Requirement: Outgoing, friendly, supportive of access to contraception and reproductive freedom.

Indiana County YMCA

The YMCA is always looking for volunteers, especially for coaches for youth sports such as soccer, basketball, etc. We are also in very desperate need for umpires for our summer tball, coach pitch and softball games. Small monetary reimbursement will be provided for umpire services. There are many other opportunities, please contact the Y. We do also offer federal work study positions.

Assistance needed with walking dogs, socializing with cats, tending to animals, marketing, working in the office, and fundraising.  Must be willing to work around animals!

Red Cross Health Services Assistant

Purpose: Assist the Health Services Department in delivering its missing by providing support in assigned departments

Responsibilities:

Willingness to support the Red Cross Mission

Assist in office administration of Health Services Department

Answer Telephone and take messages

Light typing using a typewriter and keyboard

Date entry and Filing

Assist in preparation of mailings, course materials and inventory

Setting up classroom in preparation of classes including video or DVD

Packing of course material for outside courses

Operating cash register

Decontamination of manikins after classes using detergent and bleach

CPR/First Aid instructor beneficial but not necessary

Willingness to work with other employees, volunteers and clients

Other duties and assignments as found necessary

Qualifications

Must have a valid driver's license

May have to do moderate lifting (25-50 lbs)

Must be able to pass a criminal background check

Armstrong Indiana Drug and Alcohol Commission

Brief Description: Looking for volunteers for Reality Tour Drug Prevention Program. Needed are members to act out a 3-4 minute peer pressure scene at beginning of program (must appear youthful) also needed are volunteers to help with the registration table or surveys.

Aging Services, Inc.

Adult Day Care Volunteer 

Description:

Provide services for elderly adults who may be diagnosed with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.  Looking for a volunteer to interact and socialize with clients by playing games, reading, singing, & entertain by playing musical instruments.


Self-Help Alliance

General Volunteer

Description:

Volunteers will work with mental health consumers to teach daily living skills, arts and crafts, and socialization skills.

Hours desired: Days of the week vary, hours generally needed are 9:00 AM-4:00 PM.

Vocational Volunteer

Description: Working with disabled people within the community and in the facility to achieve their employment goals.  Volunteer will be needed to tutor one-on-one, job coach, and provide clerical skills.

 Hours: 5-20 hours per week (this can be split between several volunteers), hours 8:00 AM- 2:30 PM.  Job coaching hours vary.

New Choices/New Options Career Development
Computer Basics Instructor

IUP New Choices/New Options Career Development is in need of a volunteer student or grad student to help us teach a few of our client’s computer basics.  We have 6 computers in our classroom and we are hoping to find someone to volunteer on Tues. and Wed. from 1:00 to 3:00 for 3 weeks.  That's a total of 12 hours of instruction.

 You will be engaging in hands-on instruction of the following:

Classroom Assistance

Description:     Help is needed with the daily running of classrooms.  The school has one class of each level from Pre-K (3 and 4 year olds) to 6th
grade.  Volunteers could assist us at recess or lunch duty (this would
let them get to know our students).  In the classrooms help could be
