Foreign Languages and International Studies Program for Elementary Teaching (FLISET) (2)
Elementary Education/Early Childhood majors may develop an academic specialty in Spanish and International Studies, which will prepare them to teach in elementary programs in which content teaching in the foreign language is the objective. To complete this specialty area, students must:
- attain a minimum level of intermediate-high on the ACTFL/ETS scale;
- successfully complete a six-week summer study/internship abroad at a site approved by the department (usually the summer following the junior year);
- successfully complete the student teaching experience in a bilingual or immersion elementary school classroom; and
- complete the following minimum number of credits in Spanish:

(1) While the total number of credits required in Spanish in order to attain the desired proficiency level will vary from student to student depending on the entry level of proficiency, most students can expect to complete between 25 and 31 semester hours.
(2) Students interested in the program should contact the director of the FLISET Program in the Department of Spanish and Classical Languages or the FLISET coordinator in the Department of Professional Studies in Education.
