As work crews continue to refurbish the rails of Indiana, the first construction trains have begun to roll through. While these are not the regular freighters that will begin their lumbering journies this fall, they serve as reminders to motorists and pedestrians alike: know the rules of rail safety. Knowing just a few simple rules can often be the difference between life and death.

As a new student, a continuing student, a visitor or a resident of Indiana, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the Rules of the Rails.

Know the rules. Save a life. Always expect a train.

The IUP Rail Safety Web site is a partner with Operation Lifesaver, Campus Police, Center for Student Life, PennDOT, and the Regional Highway Safety Project.

Information reflected in this site has been gathered from Operation Lifesaver and PennDOT.

This Web site is maintained by the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Department of Media Relations.

Operation Lifesaver is a nonprofit group whose purpose is to inform the public about the need for rail safety and rail laws.
