Parking Garage Rental Spots Available for 2001-2002
A total of 150 spaces in the IUP Parking Garage, located off Grant Street, will be available for rent to members of the IUP community—students, faculty, administrators and staff—starting in Summer 2001. These spaces, located on decks two and four of the garage, will be available starting with the fall semester and continuing through the end of Summer Session II 2002.

Persons interesting in renting a space are asked to send their name, phone, permanent address and e-mail address to Campus Police, University Annex, marked with "Attention, Bill Montgomery" by Aug. 17. Applications can also be sent by e-mail to billmont@grove.iup.edu. In order to distribute the spaces fairly, if applications outnumber the number of available rental spots, rentals will be assigned on a lottery basis. Those persons successful in securing rental spaces will be notified by telephone or e-mail by Aug. 24.

Cost for one semester for 2001-2002 is $170; cost for both Fall and Spring semesters 2001-2002 is $332. Either or both semester rental costs will include Summer I and II of 2002.

Preference will be given to those who request the entire fall-spring academic year (both the Fall and Spring 2001-2002 semesters.) Persons receiving rental spaces will be asked to relinquish their regular commuter-faculty-staff permits.

"This program is being done on a trial basis," said Bill Montgomery, director of campus safety and chairman of the IUP Parking Advisory Committee. "Members of the Committee will study the program after a year and make recommendations to the vice president for administration and finance and the Senior Staff about continuation or modification of the parking garage rental space program," he said.

Persons receiving a rental space will be required to observe the rules and regulations of the garage, including no entrance or egress from midnight to 6 a.m. Persons with rental permits will be permitted to leave their vehicles in the garage in their rental spaces on an overnight basis.

For more information about the program, persons should contact Montgomery or visit the IUP campus police Web site at www.iup.edu/police/

Parking Fines to Increase Across SSHE Campuses
Starting for the Fall 2001 semester, beginning Aug. 27, parking ticket fines will be $10 and boot fees (for persons with three or more outstanding tickets) will be $30.

"The State System recently reviewed parking fines for all 14 universities and recommended that parking fines be increased," Montgomery said.

Remember, Dial 10!
Just a reminder…
Beginning July 12, 2001, everyone with telephone service in area codes 412 and 724 will be required to start using the full 10-digit number when making calls. This change is being made as part of the implementation of a third area code that will be used to "overlay" the existing 412 and 724 areas.

At present we are in a period of "permissive 10-digit dialing." This means that, at this time, you can dial the 7-digit number as you have been for years or you can dial the 10-digit number that will be required on July 12, 2001. A detailed explanation of the change is available on the telecomm Web page at http://old.www.iup.edu/tsc/telecomm/givemeten.shtm.

As folks schedule their time away from the University this summer it is important to remember that this change will be taking place. All speed dials on your phones, fax machines, modems and other telecommunications devices may need to be reprogrammed to handle this change. You should make these changes now in order to avoid the unpleasant surprise that could face you on or after July 12 when your communications devices are not working as expected.

This change will not affect calls within the Centrex. Numbers that you have programmed to use the 5-digit university Centrex do not need to be changed. This change will affect any and all calls that you make by dialing 9 and then a 7-digit number. You will need to dial 9 and then a 10-digit number.

If you have questions about the new area code or the overlay please call the telecommunications help desk at 7-2714 or send e-mail to creightn@grove.iup.edu.
