Marine Corps
captains Scott Shick ’00, left, and Sean Wright ’92 with the IUP flag
Shick has carried to Iraq three times. In what they called a “couple of
Indians sending smoke signals from the warpath,” Wright and Shick supplied
the following:
Captain Sean Wright ’92
“After graduating IUP with a B.S. in Accounting, I lived and worked in the
Washington, D.C. area for ten years. In 2002, I became a commissioned
officer in the United States Marine Corps. Upon completion of MOS training
at Ft. Sill, Okla., I was assigned as an artillery officer to 1st
Battalion, 12th Marine Regiment in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. I am currently
stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., with 2nd ANGLICO [Air Naval Gunfire
Liason Company]. I have served two tours in Iraq and training exercises in
Japan and Australia. I was married in 2000. My wife, Alysia, and three
sons, Ryan, Ethan, and Kellen, reside with me in Jacksonville, N.C.”
Captain Scott “Prancer” Shick ’00
“I received my commission as an officer in the United States Marine Corps
the day I graduated from IUP. After the completion of flight school, I
received my wings as a Naval Aviator in April, 2003. I went on to train in
the CH-46E “Sea Knight” helicopter and was later assigned to HMM-261 at
Marine Corps Air Station in Jacksonville, N.C. While with HMM-261, I
completed two combat tours flying in Iraq. I’m currently serving my third
tour in Iraq, but this time I’m flying a desk instead of a helicopter.
After the completion of this tour, I have orders to return to Pensacola,
Fla., to become an instructor pilot.
“I know that IUP is the
Crimson Hawks now, but we were Indians when we there. IUP will always be
the Indians to us.”
