 After
being deployed to Camp Arifjan,
Kuwait, U.S. Army First Lieutenant Joel Machak ’03
recently returned to the States and is moving to Ft. Lee, Va., with his
wife, Julie Przepierski Machak ’03.
“After a much-needed
vacation with Julie in Mexico, it’s off to Ft. Lee, Va., for the Captain’s
course,” wrote Joel. “For those who don’t know, I was selected for
promotion to CPT last month, but it won’t take effect until this summer.
We will be in the Pa. area in late May and early June for various
weddings, graduations, and other such visits, so be ready!” |

In the photo, taken at Camp Arifjan, Joel
is third from the right. The picture was supposedly for a commercial to be
shown sometime around the Super Bowl, but he doesn’t know if it actually
aired or not.
“Rumor has it that it was shown during the
morning news on KDKA, but I’m not sure,” he said. “It was
taped in our motorpool, on our trucks. I don't know who most of the other
people are—they just showed up with the camera guy. We must have done thirty
takes for this thing.”
