The ceremony was in New
York City last month. Among the presenters were CNN’s Anderson Cooper,
ABC’s Brian Ross and NPR’s Michelle Norris. NBC’s Brian Williams and CBS’s
Harry Smith were also in attendance.
Lambert also
received two 2007 Edward R. Murrow Regional awards for the Flight 93 story
and for a radio documentary he wrote and produced, Families of the
Fallen, on how three central Pennsylvania families who lost loved ones
in Iraq are dealing with their loss. Families of the Fallen earned
him a national 2007 second-place award from Public Radio News Director
Incorporated.
Lambert has a
unique relationship to the story of Flight 93. His family owns a part of
the crash site in Somerset County and he’s been involved in the effort to
build a national memorial to honor the passengers and crew members who
lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
“This is a huge
surprise and a great honor,” Lambert said. "The story has such a personal
connection to me that it’s pretty humbling to have it recognized
nationally. For the last five years, I’ve kept the forty passengers and
crew members and their families close to my heart. So each time I reported
on Flight 93, I tried to honor their memory by telling the stories that no
one has heard before. I am grateful this story in particular resonated
with folks.”
Radio station news
director Scott Gilbert added, “Tim [and his associates] landed the most
prestigious national honor ever awarded to WITF-FM. It’s very
well-deserved, given the way they diligently crafted a story that truly
can’t be found anywhere else.”
Tim’s reporting was
recognized by the Pennsylvania Associated Press Broadcaster’s
Association with four first place awards in 2007—two in the Large Market
radio category, which includes stations in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia;
and two in the Medium Market radio category, which includes his home
market of Harrisburg.

2001.
