Faculty and Staff
Frequently Asked Questions
When are paychecks distributed?
Faculty and Staff are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Payment for work is actually made two weeks after
the pay period ending date. For example, payment
received on 5/31/02 was actually earned during the
5/4/02 through 5/17/02 period.
How do I receive payment?
Paychecks or Statements (for direct deposit) are
distributed by the Faculty and Staff Payroll
Services Department on each pay day to persons
designated to pick-up checks/statements for each
department.
I have received a faculty teaching contract and a
letter indicating that I need to contact the Payroll
Office. What do I need to bring with me?
If you have never been on the IUP payroll, you
will need to bring your social security card and a
form of photo identification (such as a driver's
license). If your contract is for 50% or more for
the entire academic year, you will be asked to
complete retirement, hospitalization, life
insurance, and other benefit forms.
What was the number that I claimed as exemptions on
my W-4?
The Faculty and Staff Payroll Services Department
can tell you the number of exemptions currently
claimed on your W-4, and assist you in making
adjustments to the number of exemptions claimed.
If you owed more on your Federal Tax Return than
you wanted to, you can reduce the number of
exemptions or add an extra deduction for a
specific dollar amount from each paycheck.

International Student Questions
If I am not eligible for Federal Work Study, is other
on-campus employment available to me?
Students not eligible for federal work-study can seek
employment in offices that have University employment or
grant funds available for students. Graduate Assistants
and Teaching Associates are authorized through the
Graduate School. Graduate Directors and Resident
Assistants are hired through the Office of Housing and
Residence Life.
How often are students paid?
Biweekly.
Can my pay be directly deposited, and when is pay
available?
Any student who has an account with any bank can have
his/her pay deposited. Pay deposited into the student's
bank is available at 5:00 AM on payday.
Can I get a second campus job?
Undergraduates are not permitted to work for more than
one employer on campus. Graduate students must meet the
criteria of the Graduate Dual Employment Policy. Each
graduate student is evaluated on an individual basis to
determine if he/she is eligible for dual employment. A
second job should not be accepted prior to eligibility
being determined by the Student Payroll Services office.
Can I work during a break?
Students can work to a maximum of 40 hours per week
during non-class periods of at least one week. The
exception is the week of fall and spring registrations,
when students can also exceed 20 hours.
Am I eligible for student employment if I am not
attending classes?
Students are required to complete an Intention to Enroll
form in the Student Payroll Services office. The student
must have the intention of returning to school on at
least a half-time basis in the session following the
period of non-enrollment. Students are not permitted to
request two back-to-back periods of non-enrollment and
continue employment on the student payroll.
Why am I required to present an original Social Security
card? Where can I get a new one?
Student payroll is required to issue all pay and W-2
forms in the exact name and social security number as on
file at the Social Security Administration. A penalty
can be issued to the employee or employer if tax
information is reported inaccurately. A new card can be
applied for locally at the Social Security
Administration office, Suite 310, 1265 Wayne Ave.,
Indiana, PA.
Where do I pick up my paycheck or direct deposit stub?
Once all paperwork has been completed, paychecks and
stubs are delivered to the employing department on the
afternoon of payday.
What is the wage pay rate?
All students are paid the prevailing minimum wage.
Graduate students are currently paid $6.00 per hour.
Graduate directors, graduate assistants, teaching
associates, resident assistants, and grant employees are
paid an hourly or biweekly salary or stipend as
determined by the program by which they are employed.
