MAATI Research Projects

Overview of Research

MAATI has conducted published empirical research and clinical advisement on adult children of alcoholics, treatment program evaluations, court-action in domestic violence cases, psychiatric response to domestic violence, alcohol abuse and domestic violence, the effectiveness of batterer intervention programs, and battered women's helpseeking. Research has been conducted in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Texas Council on Family Violence, National Resource Center on Domestic Violence, Domestic Abuse Counseling Center of Pittsburgh, Women's Center and Shelter of Pittsburgh, Veterans Affairs Substance Abuse Unit, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic of the University of Pittsburgh, and the Center for Injury Research and Control, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. MAATI is currently leading five research projects funded by regional foundations, state agencies, and federal agencies. Two of these projects are a four-year multi-site evaluation of batterer intervention systems for the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and an outcome evaluation of alcohol treatment level-of-care funded by the Hartford and Mellon Foundations.
