Crimson Connection

For IUP students who are exploring majors in the Colleges of Health & Human Services, Education & Educational Technology, and Fine Arts.

Students enrolled in the Crimson Connection will take special linked courses that count toward graduation.  During the fall semester students will take English 101 (4 credits) and Career Exploration (1 credit). You will experience stellar English professors who have received awards for their excellence in teaching.  Career Exploration will provide you with the opportunity to work with others as you examine majors.

During the second semester, students will complete a Health & Wellness (3 credits) course linked with a Library Resources (1 credit) course.  The library resources course is designed to provide an information literacy foundation as you explore your academic future.

Students will participate in the Crimson Common Hour.  This one-hour out of class experience will be held in the residence hall.  Typical experiences will include Pizza with the Dean, discussions with invited faculty from various majors, Coffee with Visiting Artists, and distinguished guest lecturers of special interest to the group.

            Liberal Education

Many First-year students are surprised at the Liberal Studies courses they must take in order to graduate. They wonder why someone who wants to be a teacher, musician or health-care worker should study subjects that have nothing directly to do with those fields. And that is a reasonable question--Why should you study history, literature, philosophy, music, art, or any other subject outside of your major? Why should you study any subject that does not help to train you for a job? What are the IUP Liberal Studies requirements? Join in a lively discussion on this topic. Guest speaker/facilitator:  Dr. Mary Sadler, Director Liberal Studies at IUP.

November 8, 2007.   4 pm
