Tax Information
The information listed below is for year 2008. Workshops will be held on March 5th & 20th
from 4:00pm to 6:00pm in OIA Conference Room If you cannot make the workshop - a tax packet is available
on March 1st, 2008 in the OIA or by emailing jessica@iup.edu. If you DID earn any U.S. income (received a paycheck-including TAs, GAs, on-campus work or authorized off-campus work) during the 2006 calendar year, there are three types of income tax returns international students must file: federal, state and local taxes. F-1 students who have been present in the US for 5 years or more need to file taxes as a resident for tax purposes. Residents for tax purposes need to file IRS 1040, PA-40 and local taxes. Free online filing is available at sites listed below. Do NOT use CINTAX-this is only for all F and J students and scholars who are non-residents for tax purposes. The Office of International Affairs will not be able to answer specific tax questions, please read the following information carefully and contact the numbers provided. Students can also contact an accountant or tax agency like H&R Block to complete tax forms. This year the Office of International Affairs is presenting tax help in a slightly different format. We will no longer be providing individualized help, rather providing 2 workshops which give an overview of all 3 tax forms. CINTAX is an online program to assist international students with filing their Federal Income Tax returns. A password is available in the OIA or at each workshop. Please attend workshops if at all possible. If not, please refer to the phone numbers and websites given.
