to global environmental issues. Projects include healthcare, residential,
restaurant, and retail spaces.
Students tour a variety of settings including offices, hospitals,
museums, factories, showrooms, retail outlets, and construction sites.
International study is available to provide an enriching cultural experience for
students.
Students are encouraged to participate in the student chapter of American
Society of Interior Designers (ASID). Activities include attendance at
professional meetings, speakers, and field trips.

Committees
The Interior Design Curriculum Committee
(IDCC)
The Interior
Design Curriculum Committee (IDCC) consists of the Interior Design faculty. The
committee meets regularly to address and act upon issues related to the Interior
Design curriculum and program as well as student concerns. The IDCC also
supports the student chapter of American Society of Interior Designers (ASID).
The Interior Design Student Advisory Board (IDSAB)
The ID Student Advisory Board (IDSAB) consists of students representing
Interior Design majors. Representatives are nominated by students and faculty,
then approved by members of the IDSAB and IDCC. Student representatives on this
committee serve as a voice for all students in the Interior Design Program.
Therefore, individuals should feel confident that their concerns would be made
known to the faculty when expressed to a student representative on this
committee.
This year's board consists of Bridget Dobson,
coordinator; James Luce, Marcy Wilson, and Erica Kozlovac.
The Interior Design Advisory Board (IDAB)
The Interior Design Advisory Board (IDAB) consists of design
practitioners. The Advisory Board meets regularly to discuss interior design
issues and the academic program at IUP. The meeting is usually combined with a
daylong professional development event, including seminars, mock interviews, and
portfolio reviews. The diversity of IDAB members allows various types of input
and suggestions for improvement in the program. For example, practitioners can
offer advice on how to better prepare students for professional practice. This
meeting gives students a chance to display and receive input on their
portfolio. It
is also a great chance to
interact with professionals, some of whom are alumni.

IUP Chapter of ASID
(American Society of Interior Designers)
The ASID student chapter (student chapter 224) was established at IUP in
December, 1998. Membership offers students the opportunity to prepare for
rewarding careers in interior design by belonging to the largest association
representing designers, industry and students. Through their membership,
students can participate in a wide variety of learning experiences and programs
that complement their academic training. Through interaction with the Society's
thousands of practitioners and industry contacts, ASID student members gain
insight into the professional aspects of interior design. Through industry and
professional interaction, students are introduced to new developments in the
field and develop professional skills that will be used throughout their
interior design careers. To find out more about IUP’s ASID student chapter and check out upcoming
events, visit our website at
http://iupasid.tripod.com.
Who Can Join:
Any student enrolled in the Interior Design program may become an ASID student
member. Students can join any time during their enrollment and do not have to
complete any credits in the program to be eligible. They must be enrolled in the
curriculum, plan on meeting the minimum 45 semester credit hours in interior
design, and be attending a minimum two year program for a degree or certificate
in interior design or architecture.
Terms of Membership:
Student membership runs from September 1st through August 31st. Membership and
renewals of student membership in the Society officially begin September 1st of
each school year. Applications for membership will be accepted throughout the
school year. However, dues are not pro-rated.
Student Chapter Application Process:
It is preferred that students apply directly through their chapter president by
completing a scantron computer-gridded application. For each form submitted,
there is a national membership fee. As a benefit, the dues also include access
to asid.org, the web-based service, if the student has Internet access. Any
additional dues that might be required by the student chapter are to be kept in
the chapter fund. National dues remain the same throughout the school year and
are not pro-rated upon the month of actual application. When the dues and
application are received at National Headquarters, the student becomes eligible
to participate in all ASID Chapter programs. In addition, he/she will be issued
an ASID Student Chapter Membership card and will receive the student newsletter,
ACCESS, and The ASID Professional Designer. The ASID Professional Designer is a
bimonthly national magazine. ACCESS provides an information forum and addresses
concerns and issues within the student community and is mailed to students three
times per year.

Students May Join the National Kitchen and Bath Association
Because IUP is a member of the National Kitchen
and Bath Association, our students may join the association, which provides
information, education, promotion, and certification to the industry through a
variety of programs.
Membership in the National Kitchen and Bath Association consists of major
segments of the kitchen andbBath industry such as manufacturers, independent
wholesale and retail suppliers, and multi-chain stores that need an educated
workforce. The NKBA also sponsors the annual K-BIS (Kitchen and Bath Industry
Show) in a major U.S. city. KBIS is the forum where all new products are shown.
In addition, educational workshops are offered concurrently. IUP Interior
Design students regularly attend K-BIS.
As a student member of NKBA, you can attend chapter meetings in your area.
Chapter meetings offer workshops on leadership, educational lectures, networking
events, design competitions, student scholarships, legal and financial help.
Students may also purchase NKBA materials at 50 percent discount.
Who Can Join:
An NKBA student membership is available to any student taking courses related to
kitchen, bathroom or allied industries at a college, university or technical
school.
Terms of Membership:
NKBA runs on a calendar-year basis. During the first year of membership, dues
are pro-rated based upon the date that the application is received. From
November to March of the following year your dues would be $35, April to June of
the same year dues are $26.25, July to September of the same year dues are
$17.50, and October to November of the same year dues are $8.75 (dues are
