What is Open
Enrollment? Open Enrollment is your annual opportunity to make changes to your health plan. Changes can include enrolling in coverage if you had previously waived coverage, selecting a new health care plan (IUP offers three different plans to faculty, managers, police, nurses and coaches) and/or adding dependents to your plan (see "Life Event" below). When is Open Enrollment? Open Enrollment for the PASSHE Health Plans is usually held the last two weeks of April each year. When will the changes I make during Open Enrollment go into effect? Any changes made to your health plan during Open Enrollment will be effective the following July 1. Can I make changes to my plan other than during Open Enrollment? You may cancel your health care coverage and/or remove dependents at any time. You may enroll in coverage and/or add dependents other than during Open Enrollment if you experience a "Life Event." A Life Event is defined as:
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you experience a "Life Event" and need to make changes to your health care plan, you must complete a SSHE Enrollment/Change Form and return to the Benefits Office within 60 days of the date of the Event. If eligible dependents are not added to your contract within 60 days of acquisition or within 60 days from the date that eligibility under the other coverage ended, those dependents may NOT enroll until the next Open Enrollment period for an effective date of July 1.
