The mission of the Office of Housing and Residence Life is to: foster
the development of a community in which the rights and responsibilities
of each individual and group are clearly defined and respected; provide
a residential program that supports the academic mission of the university;
and provide a dining program for the university community that offers high
quality, nutritious and reasonably-priced options that meet individual
tastes, respond to dietary needs, and provide opportunities to expand one's
dining experience.
The Office of Housing and Residence Life is composed of individuals
from differing backgrounds, cultures, abilities and lifestyles who value
the following: • Developing character and citizenship by providing learning opportunities
which enhance the classroom experience
Our residential communities provide individual members with the opportunity
to share experiences, goals and belief systems. Students are encouraged
to demonstrate respect for themselves and others as well as take responsibility
for their own actions. We support students as they make important life
decisions and become productive members of their communities. • Encouraging responsive, respectful, and inclusive communities
We believe diversity enriches and empowers the lives of all people.
Therefore, we strive to develop civil, dynamic communities which celebrate
individuality and commonality while affirming human dignity and integrity. • Providing ethical management and responsive service
We believe the ethical practice of sound management principles is paramount.
Thus, we endeavor to provide housing and dining services which are high-quality,
reasonably-priced, and responsive to the needs of the community. Our staff promotes these core values in the following three interdependent
areas:
• Facilities Management/Operations:
We provide cost-efficient residential and dining programs which are
responsive to the needs of the community and promote a safe, sanitary and
comfortable environment. Our ongoing goals are to: provide clean and well-maintained
facilities; meet accessibility requirements; and promote safety and security.
• Administrative Programs and Services:
We provide efficient administration of all aspects of the housing and
dining programs to meet institutional and residential needs. Our ongoing
goals are to provide: a housing program that offers a variety of living
options; a dining program that offers a variety of high-quality and nutritious
options; and work experiences that enhance skills, teach responsibility,
and assist students with their financial obligations.
• Residential Education:
We provide programs and services that prepare students to be responsible
and productive community members. Our ongoing goals are to encourage students
to: embrace intellectual and personal challenges; accept responsibility
for their actions; and develop problem-solving and decision-making skills.
