A Typical Room in Esch Hall

The first through fourth floors in Esch Hall house men and women in separate wings.  The fifth floor is men only, and the sixth floor is women only.  Although rooms vary in size, the average room is 11’10” x 15’8” (184 square feet) with a window measuring 5’8” x 4’2” (w x h).  The walls in Esch are concrete block with a height of nearly eight feet.  Rooms are equipped with two dressers, double wardrobes, desks, desk chairs, two trash cans (one for recyclables and the other for regular trash), and beds that can be bunked.  The standard bunk bed arrangement has 19” from the floor to the top of the lower mattress and 57” from the floor to the top of the upper mattress; this arrangement allows approximately eight inches of clearance under the lower mattress.  The window has a pull-down shade and a curtain rod that requires drapery hooks to attach curtains; curtains are not supplied.  Each wardrobe has a clothing rod and top shelf; the wardrobe opens with hinged double doors.  All furniture, except wardrobes, can be moved within the room.  Lighting is provided in the room via fluorescent lamps located above the desks and overhead on the ceiling.  Esch Hall also contains 6 Transitional Housing Rooms.

Residents are encouraged to decorate their rooms; however, university-owned furniture cannot be removed from the room.  Pictures and posters can be hung using poster putty only.  Nails, bolts, tacks, glue, or other adhesives cannot be used to affix materials to the walls.  Requests for painting must be approved in advance by the Residence Director.   Students may NOT return prior to the official opening of the residence hall to paint their rooms.
