RECHC Requirements
Total Hours of /H/ courses: 24 minimum
- 21 Honors credits are fulfilled through the required Honors Core (HNRC 101, 102, 201, & 202) and Honors Synthesis (HNRC 499) classes.
- HNRC 499 Honors Synthesis may be taken any time following the successful completion of 73 credits.
- At least one Honors course should be taken annually. Exceptions for study abroad, internships, and similar academic experiences may be requested through Assistant Director Rick Kutz.
- Additional Honors credits may be earned through Honors electives, Honors Independent Study, Undergraduate Honors Thesis or Undergraduate Honors Recital. Honors electives will be posted on the HC web site at earliest notice.
- Students may petition the Honors College Committee to accept the transfer of Honors credits from another university.
- The Honors Core Courses will be scheduled in the sequence defined in the table below:

HNRC 101-201 fulfills IUP Liberal Studies requirements for:
--ENGL 101, College Writing
--ENGL 121, Humanities Literature
--HIST 195, History, The Modern Era
--PHIL 120/RLST 100, Introduction to Philosophy or Religious Studies; and,
--ARHI 101/MUHI 101/THTR 101/DANC 102 Introduction to Art or Music or Theater or Dance.
HNRC 202 Science Core fulfills IUP Liberal Studies requirements for:
--Successfull completion of an HNRC 202 unit in Biology will fulfill three Natural Science non-laboratory credits.
--Successfull completion of an HNRC 202 unit in Anthropology will fulfill three Social Science Elective credits. (Note the Anthropology unit will not fulfill the non-western requirement.)
--Successfull completion of an HNRC 202 unit in Psychology will fulfill the requirements for PSYC 101.
