"Coming to IUP I knew that I wanted to work in the computer industry in some facet, but was not certain of what direction I wanted to take. I had always enjoyed the Internet, and had a small interest in creating webpages but was unsure of my future plans. After being hired to work in recruitment for the honors college, I was given the opportunity to be the student webmaster of the two sites that the honors college uses on a daily basis. Besides being a resume builder, I now know that the Internet is something that I want to work with for the rest of my life."

Career-related Campus Employment

Many college students work part time. Some receive federal work-study to seek campus jobs. But there is a world of difference between slicing pizzas in the campus dining hall or standing for hours at some copy machine and actually doing a job that can enhance your education and resume.

We make a special effort to try to match interested honors students with professors and jobs on campus that will enhance their skills. Strong science majors with ambition may easily find themselves working on real laboratory research projects in their majors. Education majors may find employment as tutors in the Writing Center or Learning Center. Psychology majors may be able to help run a study. Art majors might be the assistant in a studio or help set up shows in the campus art gallery. A little extra help in finding the right job can mean a lot down the road. We have been very successful at doing just that.
