IUP and its Honors College

The Robert E. Cook Honors College enrolled its first class at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) in August 1996. IUP is a doctoral one-state university with 14,000 students. Less than 3% of undergraduate courses at IUP are taught by graduate assistants. Those graduate assistants who teach are in the advanced stages of a doctoral program and are carefully supervised by faculty mentors. IUP endorses the model of the "teacher-scholar". While all faculty are expected to publish, teaching excellence is a major factor in tenure and promotion decisions.
The Robert E. Cook Honors College is a four-year, university-wide program for undergraduates of all majors who are selected into the program through a holistic process. The Honors College enrolls 100 freshmen each year with an average SAT of 1320. Students are required to maintain at least a 3.25/4.0 grade point average.
Our combined residential/academic facility includes classrooms and program offices, as well as student residential rooms and co-curricular spaces. The Honors College provides a challenging but nurturing educational environment for academic and personal development through an integrated program of curriculum, community service, residence and co-curricular activities.
