"Consilience": The sculpture is a replica of a mobius loop, which is a loop with no beginning and no end. It sits atop a pinnacle, signifying a peak of attainment. While "consilience" literally means "a jumping together," it has come to signify the concept that a common body of principles underlies all knowledge. It provides a way of thinking that would allow unification of  the sciences and humanities - or a drawing together of all knowledge into one continuous loop.

Indiana University of Pennsylvania is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research University-- Intensive with over 1650 graduate students and more than 50 graduate programs. The university is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools, the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools, and the Pennsylvania Association of Graduate Schools.
