  • Students supervised by Dr. John Benhart will be working on the Community Geospatial Portal project during the 2006-2008 academic years. IUP Geography & Regional Planning students will be producing digital geospatial data as the basis for an internet geographic information system (GIS) that will enable data sharing and access among Pennsylvania public and private sector entities.
     
  • Dr. Brian Okey was selected to participate in the CONNECT Seminar in Ottawa on July 25-29. CONNECT is a program funded by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade that seeks to encourage Canadian studies through a mentoring program for scholars at American universities. The seminar featured presentations by diplomats and experts in the fields of Canadian history, politics, and culture, and included a meeting with senior advisors at the U.S. Embassy.
  • Dr. Kevin Patrick's book "Pennsylvania Caves and other Rocky Roadside wonders" was published by Stackpole Books, 2004.                                                                                                   
  • A peer-reviewed article titled "Olson's Stationary-Roving Bandit Model: An Application to Zimbabwe's Land Reform and Sustainable Development," by Dr. Smile Dube, Department of Economics, California State University-Sacramento and Dr. Calvin Masilela, has been published in The Pennsylvania Geographer, Spring/Summer 2004 issue, as a special Edition on Africa.

  • A peer-reviewed article titled "Distance Decay Effects: The Case of a Small Pennsylvania Retail Flower Boutique," by Jenny L. Butchko and Dr. Joseph W. Bencloski, will be published in the Fall-Winter 2004 Edition of The Pennsylvania Geographer*.
  • IUP awarded the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program by the US Department of Education.
