Electronic Financial Aid Services

Financial aid information and processes are becoming increasingly more accessible through electronic medium. These advanced technologies provide numerous opportunities for enhanced services that are available 24/7. In order to understand the various options available, the information below outlines the major access points for personal financial aid information through the Internet.

SFA PIN

The Student Financial Aid Personal Identification Number (SFA PIN) is an electronic signature and access code provided by the U.S. Department of Education. It is a four-digit number that is linked to the name, date of birth and social security number. Parents can also get their own SFA PIN to use for electronic signature purposes. For those who have not received one in the mail, a SFA PIN can be obtained at http://www.pin.ed.gov

The SFA PIN may be used in the following situations:

  1. It is an electronic signature that can be used to sign FAFSA on the Web, make corrections to the FAFSA on the Web, and sign a Federal Stafford Loan Master Promissory Note (MPN), if the lender is an electronic signature participant.

  2. It is an access code to review personal information on the National Student Loan Database System (NSLDS), which contains loan borrowing and repayment history.
