Who and what is Facilities Management?
The Facilities Management Department is the administrative organization responsible for the stewardship of the University's physical assets. The Department cares for the daily operations of over 75 major buildings and multiple infrastructures of the main campus as well as the Punxsutawney and Armstrong Branches.
Through the four major Groups of The Facilities Management Department
(Engineering &
Construction, Maintenance,
Services,
Utilities), quality and cost-effective facilities services such as heat, air conditioning, water, electricity, design, construction, maintenance, landscaping, janitorial services, automotive fleet use, postal services, recycling, moving, and supplies are provided
to support the University's functions. The
Engineering & Construction Group prepares long-range
plans for efficient use of facilities, administers
the University's real estate, ensures that new
facilities are built properly and safely, and
renovates older facilities. The Maintenance Group
performs daily tasks to assure the facilities,
roads, landscape, and infrastructure continuously
support the needs of the entire University
community. The Services Group supplies recycling
coordination, United States Post Office services,
and custodians who maintain the high-level of
cleanliness on campus. The Utilities Group operates the S. W. Jack Cogeneration Facility, which provides energy for heat, electricity, air conditioning, and hot water across campus. The Facilities Management Department processes an average of 100 specific work requests daily and provides physical support to the University 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. The combined efforts of these Groups to plan, build, power, maintain, and service the campus, enables Indiana University of Pennsylvania to fulfill its mission of teaching, research, and public service.
