JRNL 455  High School Journalism

Prerequisites:  Junior Standing, or permission of instructor.

Aimed at equipping students with basic skills in teaching and student media advising at high school level.  Offers a package of basic skills ranging from basic elements on news, news writing, editing newspaper layout and design, student publications advising as well as legal and ethical issues in high school journalism.  High school instructors who are teaching journalism will find this course especially useful not only in enhancing their teaching skills and knowledge but in gaining college level credit under Act 48.  The course is for nonmajors.

 

JRNL 481 Community Journalism

Prerequisites:  JRNL 120 or JRNL 220; junior standing or instructor permission.

Students will gain research and interview skills to report professionally on a variety of events in their communities; identify issues of interest, relevance and concern to the community, articulate issues and interact with community as "foreign" correspondents for publications around the nation should major events occur in their communities.
