EDSP 681  Educational Programming for Gifted Learners

Dr. Victoria Damiani vdamiani@iup.edu Office Phone 724-357-3783
Dr. Beth Hutson bhutson@iup.edu  Office Phone 724-357-5679

The purpose of this three-credit hour module is to familiarize educators with the characteristics of various service delivery options in K-12 gifted education programs and to assist teachers in determining which options are best for which types of gifted learners.  Participants will examine how the concept of giftedness has changed over time and ascertain how the evolving definition of giftedness has impacted the manner in which gifted education services have been delivered over the years.  Teachers will:  (1) explore several methods of modifying general classroom instruction, (2) evaluate which methods fit best with various service delivery options, and (3) receive advice as to how they can assist general educators in utilizing these methods.  In addition, the participating individuals will develop an appreciation of the systemic challenges inherent in utilizing various options, both for the classroom teacher and for the school as a whole, and will develop some techniques for addressing these challenges.  This distance education section is restricted to graduate students.
