WebCT
WebCT is the online system you may use to communicate with your instructor
and other students. (Currently, only a few distance education classes at IUP do
not use WebCT.) WebCT contains communication tools such as email, chat, and discussion which enhance active participation in the course. Another WebCT
feature includes online quizzes that may be used throughout the course.
Login to a course by going to the "Welcome to IUP WebCT" web page:
www.iup.edu/webct (more detailed
information below). The welcome page is located in an unprotected area of the
server, and is accessible to anyone. Access to courses is password-protected, so
you must be registered for a course and have a WebCT ID as well as a recognized
password. To log on to a course, simply click on the "Login to" my WebCT link at
the middle of the Welcome Page. You will be prompted for a WebCT ID and
Password. Your WebCT ID and initial password will both be your IUP Network
username in lowercase letters. Use the mouse or tab key to move from the
WebCT ID text field to the Password text field. Then press the enter key or
click on the Log in button. (See below if you don't know your IUP Network
username). The first time you login to your WebCT account you may see an alert
window informing you to "Change Password" and "Create Login Hint". Once you
return to your WebCT account you can always click on the button "Password
Settings" located on the upper portion of the screen, and change your Password
and update your Login Hint anytime. Please note that your username will always
remain the same.
Please note that you will not have access to a course until
the course starting date.
Step by Step
- You must have access to a computer with an
Internet connection
- Choose to use either Internet
Explorer or Netscape Navigator
- Type in the web address
www.iup.edu/webct
- At IUP's WebCT homepage, scroll towards the
bottom of the screen
- Click on the hyperlink "log in to myWebCT"
- There will be a page that appears asking you
for your "WebCT ID" and "Password".
- On the field that asks for your "WebCT ID",
enter your IUP Network username. Your IUP Network username is the letters (in
lowercase) used at the end of your IUP website address. Type them in lowercase
and leave out "http://www.people.iup.edu/".
- Push the tab key
- Now enter those letters a second time in the
field that asks for your "Password"
- Press the Enter key
- After you have completed these steps, you
should now have access to your personal "myWebCT" homepage
- Click on a course title located on the left
side of the page
Please note that you will not have access to a
course until the course starting date.
Note: If you do not know your IUP Network username,
this is what you need to do.
- Enter the web address
www.iup.edu/webct
- At this screen, click on the line that
reads, "IUP Directory"
- Enter your first and last name in the
appropriate boxes
- Click "Search" (near the bottom of the page)
- Your IUP Network username is now available
for you in the chart provided under heading "Web Site:"
