Fact Sheet for Paraprofessional Peer Educator Positions Department of Developmental Studies (www.iup.edu/devstudies/)QUALIFICATIONS: Prospective Peer Educators are required to: 1.Be a freshman (2nd semester), sophomore, or junior. 2.Have a cumulative Q.P.A. of above 3.0. 3.Have earned an “A” as a final grade in the targeted course(s) 4.Complete an application form, which includes two faculty recommendation forms. 5.Successfully complete the 1-credit training course (DVST 250: Role of the Peer Educator: Theory, Practice, and Assessment) after being selected for a peer educator position. JOB DESCRIPTION: Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders
JOB DESCRIPTION: Peer Leaders for Walk-in Assistance Primary Responsibilities: 1. Publicize offerings and schedules at the beginning and periodically throughout the term. 2. Maintain communication with the targeted professors and/or course sections. 3. Maintain established work schedule. 4. Complete and collect contact sheets for each session. 5. Notify your Supervisor in advance regarding any changes in the schedule or location of your sessions. 6. Maintain competence in the courses via systematic review of content. 7. Meet with Supervisor weekly to discuss sessions & on-going job training.
RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES for ALL Peer Leaders: 1. Complete and collect contact sheets for each session. 2. Distribute surveys and fliers and make periodic announcements to targeted course section(s). 3. Maintain regular working hours. 4. Notify your Supervisor in advance regarding any changes in the schedule or location of your sessions. 5. Meet with Faculty or Peer Observers to discuss periodic observations of sessions. 6. Check IUP e-mail address weekly for job-related announcements. 7. Model appropriate professional attitudes and behaviors to students and faculty/staff. 8. Maintain a G.P.A. above 3.0 in your coursework each term.
RENUMERATION The paid position entails an average of five to twelve hours weekly (but may vary).
