The Selection Process
The Common Freshman Reader Selection Committee would like to thank members of the IUP community for nominating titles for the 2007 Common Freshman Reader program.

Follow this link to see reviews of the nominated titles.

The CFRSC will evaluate all nominations according to the following criteria:

  • Readability and potential to spark passionate discussion among students
  • Relevance to first-year students, current society, or local community
  • Interdisciplinary appeal
  • Appeal to a wide range of diverse students
  • Accurate and respectful portrayals of diverse cultures
  • Likelihood that students will have read the book in high school
  • Possibilities for additional programming
  • Opportunities for multimedia approaches and creative assignments
  • Length (preference will be given to books that are 300 pages or less)
  • Affordability and availability
The CFRSC hopes to announce the 2007-08 Common Freshman Reader by March 26, 2007.
