To
set the tone for academic excellence, IUP offers a common reading
program to all new students. Each student receives a copy of the
chosen book and is invited to read it before the start of the school
year.
The 2007-2008 Common Freshman Reader Selection Committee is
proud to announce the title for this year's program:
Field Notes
from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature, and Climate Change by
Elizabeth Kolbert. Follow this
link to learn more about the book.
During the school year, students will
have opportunities to attend programming related to the book. While
the common reading program is voluntary, faculty members are invited
to obtain copies of Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man,
Nature, and Climate Change from their deans.
Through reading, discourse, and engagement with faculty and other
students in and out of the classroom, our freshman class will
experience IUP as a university that actively encourages student
participation and recognizes the educational value of active
involvement in the intellectual life of the campus.
