Resources at IUP

It is not unusual for a college student to be undecided about a major, even if they have declared one!  In fact, national research data shows that almost 2/3 of college students change their major at least once.  As a parent, you are probably concerned about your student’s indecision.  Resources are available through the Career Development Center's Student website, or by calling 724-357-2235.  Also, the Advising & Testing Office on campus has a Major & Career Exploration Center that can provide a computerized interest inventory called Focus II, as well as paper and pencil career interest tests.  For personal issues counseling, you may want to contact the IUP Center for Counseling & Psychological Services at: 724-357-2621.

If you would like some further information to help you in this process, we recommend Helping Your First-Year College Student Succeed - A Guide for Parents by Richard H. Mullendore and Cathie Hatch, 2000.
(Highly Recommended! Order from the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, University of South Carolina, 1629 Pendleton Street, Columbia, SC 29208. Telephone: 803-777-6029)
