Faculty
The
Career Development Center wants to assist you in your
role as an academic advisor. When students turn to you
for advice about their majors and their careers we'd
like to supplement your own expertise with a little bit
of ours!
- The
Career
Game Plan is a list of suggestions that
can help a student develop the skills and
experiences that will help to make him/her a better
candidate for employment or graduate school.
Suggestions are grouped in career development
stages.
- Recent
increases in litigation over references as well as
federal and state legislation protecting the privacy
of job applicants have left many faculty and
employers confused about what is appropriate.
As students ask you for assistance or
recommendations for graduate school or employment,
you may want to refer to The National Association
of Colleges and Employers' Guidelines
for Reference Providers.
- You
may suggest that your students also utilize the
services of Reference
Now. Reference Now is a web
site that stores professional and academic
references, letters of recommendation, writing
samples, and more. Students can have these
references sent directly to potential employers.
It can be especially useful for education majors and
graduate students.
- You
may also find it beneficial to familiarize yourself
with the "Resources"
section of the web site. We greatly
appreciate referrals from faculty; however, the
information that students frequently request can
often be accessed by a "click of a
button"!
