The
department offers both half-time ($5,660 per year plus full tuition
waiver for two semesters and the following summer) and quarter-time
($2,830 per year plus half tuition waiver for two semesters and
6 cr in the following summer) teaching and research assistantships.
Assistantship duties (either twenty or ten hours per week) include
assisting with teaching or research activities under the direction
of a faculty member. Graduate assistants must be full-time students
and carry at least nine credits of courses in fall and spring semesters.
Assistantships are awarded on the basis of academic excellence,
not on financial need. The deadline for applying for a fall assistantship
is March 15 of the same calendar year. Application for an assistantship
is made through the School of Graduate Studies and Research (www.iup.edu/graduate)
Financial
Aid
If
an assistantship is not offered, a student may be eligible for IUP-based
financial assistance in the form of federal work-study. In addition,
the Financial Aid Office has information about various scholarships,
employment opportunities, and loan programs.
