STS ->VPN ->Access using Windows XP

How do I access the VPN using Windows XP?
 

To access the VPN, you need to create a new connection.  Before you can create this connection, you MUST connect to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

1. To setup a VPN connection, begin by right clicking  “My Network Places” on your desktop and select “Properties”.

2. Select “Create a New Connection” from “Network Task “box in the left menu.

Next you will see the Network Connection Wizard box select “Next”.

3. Click the radio button that states. “Connect to the network at my workplace”. 

Select “Next”.
4. You will need to choose how to connect.  It is recommended you select “Virtual Private Network connection”.
 

 

5. The next Network Connections Wizard screen allows you to name your new VPN connection.  You can enter something like “IUP VPN”
Select "Next".
6.  In the next screen you will need to enter the name of IUP’s VPN server.  Enter “VPN.IUP.EDU” in the hostname box.  Select “Next”

7.  You should next see the Connection Availability box. You need to select, “Anyone’s use”.  Once again select “Next.” 

8.  This screen gives you the option to place a shortcut for the new VPN connection on your desktop.  If you wish, check “Add shortcut to my desktop”.  Select “Next”.

 

9.  Once your VPN setup is complete, a logon box will appear.  Before you connect to the VPN you will need to change the current settings.  First, click "Properties".

10.  Under the "Options" tab, check "Include Windows logon domain".  This feature will let you type your domain into a  Logon domain box.

13.  Click “OK”.

14.  The last step is to authenticate to the VPN server.  When you see the logon box enter your IUP network username,  password, and domain.  Please refer to the picture in step 6 for more clarity.  If you wish, check the box to save your password.  Finally, select “Connect” to access IUP’s VPN server.

 To disconnect from the VPN, right click the icon located on the taskbar at the bottom of your screen.  Select “Disconnect” and your session will be terminated.
