Mission & Services

The mission of the Advising and Testing Center is to provide excellent service and access to the greater university for the students whom it serves.  In doing so it supports the advising services and equal access mission of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Services as defined within the Center's mission include:

  • Orienting, placement testing, advising, and registering entering freshmen, and orienting their parents, through the Orientation program.

  • Assisting transfer students and IUP students at the university's regional campuses in Punxsutawney and Armstrong County with transition to the Indiana campus through the provision of a transfer-student advising and registration program.

  • Providing access to the university's education and services as mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act; and, as well, serving as an advocate for students with disabilities and trainer on disability issues for faculty, staff, and students.

  • Providing major and career exploration services and classes for students unsure of their major and/or career.

  • Exploring the need for and processing undergraduate total university withdrawals for students needing to leave the university within a semester.

  • Providing training on advising issues and serving as a liaison to other advisement centers on campus.

  • Being broadly aware of university academic policies and services so as to be an accurate and responsive referral source for all university and community constituencies as needed.
