Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

Edward N. Brown Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to worthy and deserving students majoring in chemistry with a good academic record that includes a high GPA in chemistry and a high overall GPA.

Computer Science Alumni and Friends Freshman Scholarship
Several freshman year only $1,000 scholarships awarded to computer science majors (number of scholarships can vary by academic year).  The award is based on high school class rank, courses taken, GPA, honors/awards, and activities.  No application is required.

Iva Carlson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a permanent resident of Warren County (Pennsylvania) enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Preference given to female graduates of Warren Area High School. Consideration is given to financial need. Must attain a 3.0 GPA to maintain scholarship for four years.

Barry Day Freshman Scholarship for Mathematics 
Established by a 1972 graduate, this scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman majoring in a program offered by the Department of Mathematics.

IUP Alumni Association Scholarship 
Awards are made to outstanding incoming freshman students with preference given to children or dependents of IUP alumni.

Natural Sciences and Mathematics Scholarship
Awarded to an entering freshman from an Indiana County high school who is enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. A minimum SAT score of 1100 and a class rank in the top tenth are required. Renewal of scholarship is contingent on maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade point average each year.

Dr. Thomas Smyth Memorial Scholarship for Biology 
This scholarship, created to honor a longtime faculty member at Indiana State Teachers College, benefits outstanding biology majors interested in some phase of natural history.

Scholarships for Currently Enrolled Students

Ida Z. Arms Excellence Scholarship
Awarded to students majoring in Mathematics or Mathematics Education who have demonstrated academic excellence in their study at IUP. Grants are made primarily on the basis of overall academic achievement, including mathematics, to students who have completed at least the sophomore year (56 credit hours or more) and are enrolled at IUP for the succeeding year.

Edward N. Brown Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to worthy and deserving students majoring in Chemistry with a good academic record that includes a high GPA in chemistry and a high overall GPA. Student must have completed at least four semesters of study at IUP, including four semesters of chemistry, and will probably be a senior, or at least a second-semester junior. 

Iva Carlson Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a permanent resident of Warren County (Pennsylvania) enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics. Preference given to female graduates of Warren Area High School. Consideration given to financial need. Must attain a 3.0 GPA to maintain scholarship for four years.

Chairman’s Scholarship Fund
Awarded to deserving students enrolled as Mathematics majors at IUP.

Roy A. Daugherty Scholarship
Scholarships will be given to worthy students majoring in Math Education with preference given to sons and daughters of members of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity who attended IUP with Mr. Daugherty.

William Heard Memorial Scholarship
Established as a memorial by friends and colleagues of William Heard, formerly a professor at IUP, the scholarship is awarded each year to a junior Chemistry major for his/her senior year. The recipient is selected by the Chemistry Department steering committee on the basis of contributions to the department and the university, financial need, academic record, and interview. Applications are available each spring in the Chemistry Department Office.

Dr. Willard W. Henneman, Jr., Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to an undergraduate student with 57 to 90 credits (junior standing) and a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is enrolled in the Mathematics Education area. Graduate student recipients must be enrolled in the Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers program, enter the program with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or higher, and/or achieve a minimum GPA of 3.0 after completing a minimum of six hours of graduate work.

Stanley W. Lore Scholarship
A committee consisting of three Psychology faculty members selects the student based on GPA, Psychology GPA, and other evidence of outstanding academic work. 

Ronald L. Marks Scholarship
Awarded to a freshman Chemistry Education major and/or a junior Chemistry Education major. Students must have a 3.0 GPA to be eligible.

Mathematics Graduate Scholarship Fund
Awarded to full-time or part-time students not receiving assistantships.

Arthur G. Morrell Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a Mathematics major completing the sophomore or junior year at IUP.

PPG Computer Science Scholarship
This PPG Computer Science Scholarship is awarded annually to the foreign student with the highest overall grade-point average who is majoring in Computer Science, is entering his/her junior year, and has completed at least nine credit hours of computer science.

Albert R. Pechan Scholarship
This is a scholarship for an outstanding science major selected by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

Mildred M. Reigh Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to students pursuing a degree in Mathematics Education or Elementary Education with a mathematics concentration. Recipients must have reached a minimum of junior standing (57 to 90 credit hours) and carry at least a 3.0 GPA.

Howard E. Tompkins Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time Computer Science major with the highest overall grade-point average who is entering the junior year and has completed at least nine credits of computer science. Must be awarded to a female if only one scholarship is being awarded.

Wienken and Associates Scholarship 
Awards are made to upper-level students enrolled in the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics who have successfully completed at least 30 credit hours and have achieved a 2.75 cumulative grade point average.
