Scholarships for Incoming Freshmen

Gloria J. Croft Bolinger Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to a graduate of Tussey Mountain High School. The Tussey Mountain administration and faculty select recipients. 

Colonial Motor Mart Scholarship 
Established by the Spadafora family in honor of their employees, this scholarship is awarded to academically talented freshman students enrolled at IUP who have graduated from an Indiana County high school. Preference will be given to children and dependents of employees of Colonial Motor Mart.

Natalie S. Fassett Scholarship Fund 
(Awarded jointly with the University Scholarship Committee)
Supports the Foundation Distinguished Scholars program, awarding renewable scholarships to outstanding freshmen. Preference will be given to students who attended Homer Center High School.

Theresa Hart Gramley Memorial Scholarship 
(Awarded jointly with the University Scholarship Committee)
Established by bequest of Mrs. Gramley, a 1927 graduate of Indiana Normal School, this scholarship provides financial assistance to academically promising students.

W.R. Hevner Family Scholarship
Larry J. Hevner, a 1970 graduate of IUP, started this scholarship to assist graduates of Harmony High School in Westover, Pennsylvania, who enroll at IUP.

Charles and Margaret Kupchella Scholarship 
Established by the children of Mr. and Mrs. Kupchella, this scholarship is awarded to a graduate of Blacklick Valley High School who has enrolled at IUP.

Earl and Frances Kinney Memorial Trust Scholarship 
(Awarded jointly with University Scholarship Committee and Honors College)
Awarded to talented undergraduate students at IUP who demonstrate financial need as determined by financial standards used by the University Scholarship Selection Committee.

Joseph and Judy Kovalchick Family Scholarship 
Awarded each year to a graduate of St. Mary’s High School who attends IUP. Applications are available in the Guidance Office of St. Mary’s High School. Recipient must be in good standing and a Pennsylvania resident.

Thomas and Flora McGrainor Memorial Scholarship
Offered to a student from Dayton (Pennsylvania) High School who is enrolling at IUP. Recipient must demonstrate financial need, a 2.5 cumulative GPA, and involvement in extracurricular activities and/or community services.

John W. McNaul Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating senior from Somerset (Pennsylvania) High School who will be attending IUP as a full-time student and who demonstrates financial need.

Colonel Leonard A. and Mary D. McQuown Memorial Fund 
(Awarded jointly with the University Scholarship Committee)
Supports the Foundation Distinguished Scholars program, which awards scholarships to outstanding freshmen. The awards may be renewed for four years. Preference will be given to graduates of Punxsutawney High School.

Morino Scholars Award
Awarded to academically promising and financially deserving undergraduate students. Preference given to students from historically mining communities whose parents or grandparents are employees or retirees or expired while working in the mines; who are in the upper 10 percent of their high school class; who score 1100 on the SAT; and who demonstrate a financial need. Eligibility restricted to graduates of high schools located within Indiana County.

G. William and Julia Musser Scholarship
Scholarship is awarded to the most qualified incoming freshman pursuing a pre-law major. Renewable if student maintains a 3.0 GPA.

Margaret M. Patton Foundation Scholarship
Established to assist students attending the university who are worthy and in need of such assistance. Preference will be given to students attending the Armstrong Campus.

Dr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Phillips Scholarship 
Supports the Foundation Distinguished Scholars program, which awards scholarships to outstanding freshmen. The awards may be for four years. Preference will be given to residents of Butler, Clarion, Forest, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, and Venango counties.

William E. Pierce Scholarship
Established to award a one-year grant to the junior ROTC cadet with the highest standing in his/her sophomore ROTC class.

Carino Queen Evergreen Scholarship
Awarded to a resident of Indiana County and to Indiana County’s Queen Evergreen if she attends IUP on a full-time basis.

Joseph W. Serene Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating senior from Indiana Area High School who has enrolled at IUP, has achieved a good academic standing (3.0 GPA), is active in school and/or community groups, and demonstrates good citizenship.

Robert R. Sheetz Memorial Scholarship 
Created to honor the memory of a 1971 graduate of IUP, this award is presented to an incoming freshman student pursuing a degree that will lead to a career that will serve the public good. Preference is given to graduates of Greenburg High School and residents of Westmoreland County.

Sons of Italy Recreative Club, Inc., Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded to graduates of Indiana County schools, with the exception of Homer Center, who enroll as full-time students at IUP.

Michael J. Supinka, Jr., Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a full-time entering freshman who is a graduate of Homer Center High School and who demonstrates academic excellence and leadership qualities.

Vaughn Foundation
Two $500 scholarships are awarded to incoming freshmen demonstrating academic promise, financial need, and a willingness to give a portion of their time to community service. Students must also participate in men’s football, men’s basketball, or women’s basketball. Preference given to students enrolling in Eberly College of Business. Renewable for up to four years provided the student maintains good academic standing and athletic eligibility.

Florence Wallace Scholarship Fund 
(Awarded jointly with the University Scholarship Committee)
Supports the Foundation Distinguished Scholars Program, which awards scholarships to outstanding freshmen. The awards may be renewed for four years.

West Branch Area High School Scholarship
Awarded to graduates of West Branch Area High School, Clearfield County (or any named successor created by a consolidation of high schools), who demonstrates financial need and positive academic achievement. 

Isabella Wilkinson-Green/Kathryn Cepull-Woleslagle Scholarship
Provides a renewable scholarship to students born in five Southwestern Pennsylvania counties—Westmoreland, Allegheny, Fayette, Washington, or Greene County, Pennsylvania—who demonstrate a history of volunteer service to elderly persons and/or homeless or abused animals; are enrolled as a full-time freshman at IUP in the College of Education and Educational Technology; have at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), “B” or 80 percent at the time of high school graduation; and demonstrate financial need as verified by the Financial Aid Office at IUP. Students graduating from either a charter school or cyber school are not eligible.  

First choice:  a high school graduate of Ligonier Valley School District who resides in Laughlintown, PA at the time of graduation or a high school graduate of Woodland Hills School District who resides in Turtle Creek, PA at the time of graduation. 

Second choice:  a high school graduate from Ligonier Valley School District who resides in Ligonier Township, PA at the time of graduation or a high school graduate from Woodland Hills School District who resides in Forest Hills, PA at the time of graduation. 

Third choice:  If a student from Ligonier Valley School District or Woodland Hills School District is not eligible, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student who was a resident of Westmoreland, Allegheny, Fayette, Washington, or Greene County at the time he or she graduated from high school. 


Coraopolis Wolves Club Den IX Scholarship
Provides a scholarship to full-time undergraduate students who graduated from Moon, Cornell, or Montour school districts and who are in the upper quarter of their graduating class. Awards may be renewable based upon maintenance of good academic standing and availability of funds.

Scholarships for Currently Enrolled Students

American Association of University Women Scholarship
Awarded annually to nontraditional female residents of Indiana County, based upon financial need and successful completion of at least six credits leading to a degree.

APSCUF Scholarship
The IUP APSCUF Scholarships are awarded to students who have earned between 29 and 46 credits and who have shown involvement in IUP and community services.

Aramark Scholarship
Established and donated by the IUP food service contractor.  Ten (10) $1000 and five (5) meal plans are awarded each year to undergraduate students with a minimum of 30 and a maximum of 100 earned credits.  Awards are based on academic standing and financial need as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Israel and Birdye Brody Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded each year to juniors who have at least a 3.8 average and who have served the university and/or community.

Dr. Howard B. Buterbaugh Scholarship Fund
A gift to the university from Dr. Howard Buterbaugh’s estate, the scholarship is to be given to students from Indiana County based on their academic performance.

Clark Scholarship
Mr. and Mrs. Steele Clark established the Lt. Alpheus Bell Clark Memorial Scholarship in memory of their son. Scholarships are awarded each year to seniors at the university who, in the opinion of a committee, best qualify for the honor in terms of academic ability, leadership, and service to the university, with preference going to veterans or sons or daughters of veterans.

Foundation for IUP Community Volunteer Service Award 
Created in honor of the Foundation’s 30th anniversary, this scholarship is awarded to students who have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours and are engaged in volunteer community service to benefit the local and/or university community.

Goldstrohm/Citizen’s Ambulance Scholarship
Awarded to an employee of Citizen’s Ambulance Service, Inc., who is actively enrolled as a full-time or part-time student.

Harrisburg Alumni Chapter of IUP Scholarship Fund
Awarded to a sophomore or junior (26 to 90 credits) with a GPA of 3.0. Preference extended to children of alumni active in Harrisburg and to Pennsylvania residents of Cumberland, Dauphin, or Northern York counties. Consideration also given to other counties included in the Harrisburg Alumni Chapter membership, such as Adams, Franklin, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Perry counties.

Indiana County IUP Alumni Chapter Scholarship
Established by the membership of the Indiana County Alumni Chapter, this award provides an annual scholarship to a graduate of an Indiana County high school who is a full-time student in good academic standing, has completed between 24 and 56 credits, and demonstrates financial need. Preference is given to children and grandchildren of IUP alumni and members in good standing of the Indiana County Alumni Chapter.

Kuzneski Family Scholarship
This scholarship is awarded to an IUP student who has a declared major in Nursing or Art or is participating in intercollegiate football. Preference is given to students graduating from Indiana County high schools.

Edward E. and Cecilia A. Mackey Scholarship
Awarded to students enrolled in the Eberly College of Business and Information Technolgy with a declared major who have earned at least 48 credits, and who have a 3.0 cumulative GPA. First preference given to students who participate in the IUP men’s football program and are in good academic standing.

Miss IUP Scholarship
A $500 scholarship is awarded to the winner of the Miss IUP pageant for use in the subsequent academic year.

Margaret M. Patton Foundation Scholarship
Established to assist students attending the university who are in need of such assistance. Preference will be given to students attending the Armstrong Campus.

Lenora Pechan Scholarship
Awarded to ROTC students as recommended by the ROTC staff.

Phi Delta Theta Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Randy Colalella and Jeffrey Diez. Funds are awarded to full-time students who are members in good standing of Phi Delta Theta and who have a GPA of at least a 3.0. Recipient is chosen by the Office of Student Activities and Organizations.

William E. Pierce Scholarship Fund
Established to award a one-year grant to the junior ROTC cadet with the highest standing in his/her sophomore ROTC class.

Carino Queen Evergreen Scholarship
Awarded to a resident of Indiana County and to Indiana County’s Queen Evergreen if she attends IUP on a full-time basis.

Saco Excelling Greek Scholarship
Scholarships are awarded to outstanding Greek juniors named at the spring Greek awards banquet.

Martha S. Scheeren Scholarship
Awarded to an economically disadvantaged IUP student residing in Indiana County between the ages of 23 and 50. Preference will be given to graduates of Indiana County high schools and to women. Secondary preference will be given to residents of Armstrong, Cambria, and Jefferson counties.

Senior Class Scholarship Award
A yearly scholarship awarded to a full-time student who has earned 75 to 90 credits at the end of the first semester of the junior year, who has a GPA of at least 3.5, and who is involved with campus affairs, organizations, and activities.

Patricia Shields Memorial Scholarship
This $500 scholarship is awarded each year to a full-time student from Armstrong County who has achieved junior standing and carries at least a 3.0 GPA. Preference may be given to students who originally attended the Armstrong branch campus of IUP.

Zonta Club of Indiana (1982 to 2007) Scholarship
Former members of the Zonta Club provide a scholarship for a female IUP student who has earned at least 24 academic credits, is 25 or older, and is a resident of Indiana County. Eligible students must demonstrate hardship need, exemplify personal character, have a commitment to academic excellence, and demonstrate promise for future success.
