The Academic Affairs Division, led by the Provost, provides leadership for, organizes and supports the academic program of the university. Each of the university's colleges is coordinated by this division, as well as several programs that are not specific to a single college.

The senior officer next to the President, the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs supervises the work of the Associate Provosts and Deans. Specific responsibilities include providing leadership for academic planning and program development; administration of academic policies and standards; advising the President concerning tenure, promotion and leaves; the selection of faculty and staff, in cooperation with departmental faculty, chairpersons and Deans; and the development and supervision of the budget for Academic Affairs.
