Faculty: scholars who teach
At IUP, classes are taught by professors – not graduate assistants, as you’d find at a mega state university. What’s more, our faculty are leading scholars in their respective fields:
- IUP faculty won a total of 52 Fulbright Exchange Awards between 1959 and 2000, enabling them to study and conduct research in 27 countries.
- In the past year, our faculty’s research has been sponsored by such institutions as the National Science Foundation, NASA, the American Chemical Society, the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, the U.S. Department of Education, and many more.
- In just the last year, more than 20 faculty members published books, and countless others edited, coordinated, or contributed to professional journals.

A wide range of options
Who are you now? What do you want to become? Not sure?
Then IUP is the place for you. We offer more than 130 undergraduate majors and minors and 46 graduate-level courses of study, so you’re sure to find the path you’re looking for. Choose a traditional course of study, such as philosophy, English, or anthropology, or concentrate on a career-oriented major, such as safety science or respiratory therapy. And whatever your major, you can expand your horizons and your career options by participating in
internships, practicum experiences, and study-abroad opportunities.

Location, location, location
Indiana
is within an hour of urban areas, but our main campus is in the heart of rural Indiana County, where hunting and fishing abound. You could take in a show at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh or tour the Johnstown Flood Museum one day, then go camping the next at our Student Cooperative Association’s lodge. Indiana, a safe, small town with a quaint downtown area, is also just an hour’s drive or less away from three ski resorts, two bike trails, and a number of golf courses.

A place to have fun
At IUP, we realize that the classroom is just the beginning of a great college experience. That’s why we offer such a wide range of extracurricular opportunities, including recreational activities, cultural events, and places to hang out. For example:
- The
Student Cooperative Association’s
on-campus Hadley Union Building features a fully equipped exercise center,
a food court where you can meet with friends over
meals or snacks, and a brand new bookstore with a cyber café and coffee shop.
- The 272-acre College Lodge features an outdoor hiking and exercise trail.
- Nearby Yellow Creek State Park offers sailing and fishing.
- A bike trail loops near the campus, providing easy access to safe, traffic-free bike riding.
- Our
College of Fine Arts sponsors a wealth of concerts, theatrical presentations, and art exhibits, some of which feature students and some professional musicians, actors, and musicians.
- The
Center for Student Life
brings a wide variety of acts and speakers to campus; recent visitors include The Clarks, Less Than Jake, the Indigo Girls, Fastball, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, Ray Charles, the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Wynton Marsalis, Spike Lee, Billy Joel, and Bill Cosby.
- Spur-of-the-moment activities include on-campus showings of recent films, live entertainment, and plenty of restaurants and gathering places in Indiana.

Technological sophistication
In this age of technology, we know you expect electronic support when you register for classes; write papers; check your grades; access course materials; communicate with your professors, advisors, classmates, and friends; search for a part-time job; and publish your personal Web page. And we’re ready for you:
- Every residence hall room has Internet access, so students can access any information, day or night.
- All students may use five
university-owned public computer labs, in addition to using the library’s banks of computers.
The Student Cooperative Association also has a
computer lab for student use, in the Hadley Union
Building.
- All registration and class scheduling is completed exclusively online, providing students with complete access to their records.
- The Student Helpdesk
provides access to support in a variety of computer-related problems.
- You can even use your student identification card, known as the
I-Card, for purchases and banking.
- All students are given a home directory, which is accessible from any networked computer on campus. It allows you to store files for school, Web pages, and more.
