Eve Hrabovsky
Interior Design Major
Hometown: Rural Valley, PennsylvaniaBackground
I grew up on a farm with pigs, horses, hay, and three brothers. As a
kid, I was extremely shy, and I could relate more to cats than people.
But, I've since broadened my horizons a bit.
Why IUP
My dad is a math professor at IUP's
Learning Enhancement Center. It
made sense that I would come to IUP since it was close to home and affordable.
For a campus job, I started out working with my dad as a supplemental
instructor. That was a great experience, in that it helped to bring me out
of my shell, but it wasn't for me. I moved on to maintain the Learning
Enhancement Center's website. After a couple of years, I'm now
restructuring web sites with the IUP Communications Group.
School Stuff
I love making stuff. Interior Design seemed like a good fit because it
nurtured my interest in architecture. I want to work toward making the
environment that we live in safe and alive and accessible to as many people as
possible. That's why I've concentrated my studies in green/sustainable
design and low-income housing. The great thing about IUP having a strong
liberal studies program is that you can make your own education. I'm not
limited to my major and have taken classes that would seemingly have nothing to
do with interior design (like Ballroom/Tap Dance), but everything has added to
my growth as a human being.
Things You Do
As a member of the Environmentally Conscious Organization and the Outing
Club, I get to play outdoors while working toward keeping nature clean. I
met a lot of really interesting people and made many lasting friendships.
If I'm not studying, building stuff, or tearing stuff apart to see what's
inside, then I'm hanging out with my eclectic mix of friends, contemplating
existence, giggling over boys, grunting over cars, or doing random, haphazard
things.
Around Here
Indiana is such a small town, yet there's so much to do if you're willing to
look for it. There are long walks through crisscrossing alleyways, local
theatrical productions, art shows and exhibits, visiting musicians, Sheetz
cappuccinos, over 200 student clubs and organizations, interesting classes,
sports, movies, snowball fights, and patches of grass in the sun. Get
involved and do stuff! |
